The archipelago of the Hawaiian Islands consists of 6 islands: Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui & Hawaï. Their volcanic origin has enabled the creation of several micro-environments such as tropical rainforest, desert, alpine regions, sunny beaches and even an erupting volcano! There are only two seasons, summer from May to October, and winter from November to April. On the other hand, the temperature varies only by 4C between seasons ... there is a greater difference in the precipitation which is more numerous in winter on the northeast side of the islands. It is almost impossible to visit the entire archipelago in one trip, so it is best to choose between 2 or 3 islands. Thus, we can soak up the unique atmosphere of each of them. For the ease of transportation from Montreal, we chose to start our stay in Maui. Maui, also nicknamed the Valley Island, is the second largest of Hawaii. Our selection of accommodation ended on a condominium located near Lahaina, Honua Kai Resort and Spa. It represents a happy mix between the convenience of an apartment without forgetting the advantages of a hotel complex such as swimming pool, restaurant, spa and a beach within walking distance where you can swim with turtles !!

Activities:
One thing you should not miss on Maui is undoubtedly the sunrise over the extinct volcano of Haleakala. As of February 1, 2017, a reservation is required to access it, at a cost of $ 1.50 per car on www.recreation.gov up to 60 days in advance. Watch the schedule for sunrise and allow at least 2 hours of travel if you are coming from Kaanapali. On the other hand the atmosphere at the top is incredible, then there are several possibilities of hiking trails. On the way back, it is possible to stop at the Maui Tropical Plantation to visit the Mill House for a delicious lunch with an incredible view! In addition, on the slopes of the volcano near Kula, it is possible to take a tour of the farm O'O and enjoy a gourmet lunch with fresh products just picked. A unique experience at 3500 feets of elevation ... reservation required (by phone 808-667-4341) from Monday to Friday at 10h30 am (duration of 3hours) at a cost of $ 64 / person.
The Hana Road is also very popular. Only 84kms, but calculate a good three hours to cross its 600 bends and nearly 60 single-lane bridges !! Hana is not the main destination, it is rather a trail located in the Haleakala National Park, the Pipiwai Trail! A walk of about 90 minutes through a 1.2kms bamboo forest and ends at the foot of the Waimoku Fallls. Do not take this hike in bad weather, because the track quickly becomes dangerous with the rain ... On your return, take the time to make a stop at the black sand beach of Wai'anapanapa State Park. It is sublime.
Of course, there are several beautiful beaches, but the Kihei area is worth visiting for the Wailea and Secret Cove beaches.
A special place to see is the Nakalele Blowhole point, where there's a heart carved out in the rocks. Located on the northwest coast of the island, about 13kms from Kapalua (MM 38.5), it is possible while driving to make a stop at Honolua Bay which is a popular spot for snorkeling .
